HYBUILT's galvanised steel H posts are the intermediate posts in a post and panel retaining wall. Sleepers span between them and the posts carry that load down into the pier, so post size, spacing and embedment are the numbers that decide whether a wall stands up. Hot dip galvanised for long term corrosion resistance in the Queensland climate, and suitable with our concrete, timber or sandstone sleepers.
These are the standard 100 series posts and they suit the great majority of residential walls. For engineered walls, taller walls, or where an engineer has nominated a heavier section, see the heavy duty 150UC23 range.
Section details
The post is a 100UC14.8 universal column to AS/NZS 3679.1. The figure that matters most when you are matching sleepers is the clear gap between the flanges, because that is the slot your sleeper sits in.

An 83mm slot takes our 75mm concrete sleepers with about 8mm to pack out, which is what the non-perishable wedges are for. Allow roughly two wedges per sleeper per post.

Working out the length you need
As a rule of thumb the post is twice the wall height, because the recommended pier depth matches the height of the wall. A 1.2m wall therefore takes a 2.4m post. Use the wall calculator to size and count them, and read the steel post installation guide before you dig. Where your wall has an engineered design, use the post length, spacing and pier depth in that design rather than a rule of thumb.
Walls over about 1 metre high commonly need council approval and an engineered design, and approval can also be triggered by loads behind the wall, a slope above it, or the wall sitting close to a building, a boundary or another wall. Thresholds vary by council across South East Queensland and Northern NSW, so confirm what applies to your site with your local council or a building certifier before you order.
Finishing the top
Close the open top of the post with an H post cap so water and debris cannot sit inside the section. Caps are cheap and easy to forget on a take-off.
