Non-perishable plastic wedges sized for composite sleepers. They sit between the sleeper and the post to pack out the gap, so each course sits level and the wall face finishes flush and straight.
A sleeper dropped into a post channel has play in it. The wedge chocks the sleeper forward against the front flange, taking up the tolerance between the post centres and the actual sleeper length. Skip them and you get a wall that is structurally fine and visibly wavy.
Timber packers rot and crush, and when they do the course above settles unevenly. These do not.
Work on roughly two wedges per sleeper as a starting point, which is what our wall calculator uses.
A 10 metre wall, 1 metre high, in 2380mm composite sleepers works out at 5 bays and 5 courses, so 25 sleepers and about 50 wedges, which is two packs. Tight access, out of square posts or a curved wall line all push the number up, so order a spare pack rather than stopping halfway.
These are sized for the 60mm composite sleeper. If you are building with concrete, you need the concrete sleeper wedges instead, which suit the 75mm thickness and come in larger packs. They are not interchangeable, so if you are running both materials on one job, order both.
